Daybreak – Plot Summary
The Daybreak webcomic series is a very sweet and wholesome story that will make your day with each new chapter! This story starts with two high school students, Marcus (he/him) and Cog (he/they) in their daily lives and pursuit of love!
We get to see interactions primarily between these two main characters, but later on the story also begins to focus on some side characters who are friends of the main duo. This story starts out in a high school setting, and follows the characters after graduation as well!
The series is ongoing and usually releases new chapters often. It has a slice-of-life feel with easy-to-read bite-sized chapters. If you’re looking for a cute story to enjoy without too much drama or conflict, Daybreak is a great choice!
Why I Enjoyed Daybreak
Plot:
I enjoyed Daybreak for a variety of reasons! It’s a nice, easy read without any overdramatic conflicts, villains, or the like. It’s super sweet and I absolutely loved the wholesome interactions between the main characters and others, too. The plot primarily focuses on romance and relationships, and the story is carried by dialogue and interactions amongst the characters.
As for the romance, it doesn’t take long to get started, and it is incredibly sweet. The main duo are the cutest couple, and each chapter just warms your heart! They have so much mutual understanding and respect, it’s a very healthy representation of a relationship with great communication. Both Marcus and Cog are green flags!
Daybreak often shows the sweeter aspects of love, like learning more about the other person, discovering their likes and dislikes, being thoughtful towards one another, and enjoying the little things while dating.
I really loved this sweet and heartwarming style of romance. It is impossible to read this webtoon without getting a big smile on your face! It’s got some comedic elements too, since these characters can often be a bit silly or relatable.
Speaking of relatable, Daybreak has a very wholesome portrayal of romantic relationships and friendships of all kinds. There is so much diversity and representation in this webtoon, as it portrays many different cultures, sexualities, relationship dynamics, and even personalities.
I absolutely love stories that have a variety of characters, especially who are all kind enough to try and understand each other and their differences—so this representation is a huge plus. You are highly likely to find a character that you can relate to in some way!
Overall, this webcomic is just so heartwarming. The interactions between these quirky characters are so cute, and they’ll easily put a smile on your face or make you laugh! The amount of sweetness in this cute series will literally melt your heart. The plot overall feels very positive, even with some very small bumps here and there.

Characters:
I really love the character designs in Daybreak. The characters are so cute and have such fun designs that really let their personalities shine through!
The first main character I’ll talk about is Marcus (shown in the picture above on the right). Marcus is an energetic and bubbly character who has a fun style and likes to cook! He is a ray of sunshine, and is very expressive.
His character actually surprises me sometimes when he expresses negative emotions, since he’s usually so smiley and animated. My favorite part of this character is his reactions to Cog and the things they say or do. Marcus is a total cutie!
Marcus is also a trans character, which is a topic that is refreshingly normalized in this lovely story. Daybreak features a diverse set of characters that are all so loving and respectful of each other. Even when they have their differences, the communication is top notch.
It’s an overwhelmingly positive vibe, and I really liked that aspect of the plot. When stories do this, it just warms the heart to see an example of what our world could be—full of love, acceptance, and togetherness.
The next main character of Daybreak is Cog! Cog is a smart character who enjoys reading comics and karaoke. They’re great at fearlessly saying what they feel and getting straight to the point. He can be a bit of a smoother talker, and is actually really funny at times! His character is typically cool and calm, but gets very excited about food—which is adorable and relatable.
They are also pretty expressive around their family! I especially love when Cog becomes happy after seeing Marcus’ happy expression (everything about this comic is so sweet). It’s nice to able to see main characters with such distinct personalities in Daybreak.
I also wanted to show some appreciation for the side characters, as this story begins to showcase arcs for them later in the series. All of the side characters have unique personalities that add some fun variety and additional interest to the story.
One great example is Cog’s best friend, Toma. Toma is clearly a very close and reliable friend. They have a really funny relationship that easily shows they’ve been friends for some time—which is very endearing. Readers get to see more of Toma and countless other lovable characters a bit later into Daybreak (especially into season 2) so look forward to it!
Art:
Another aspect of Daybreak that I enjoyed is the colorful art style. The focus is typically on the characters themselves and not so much the backgrounds; but I think this allows for more fun character designs.
The author even brings some extra creativity and realism to the characters’ individual styles, as they’re often portrayed throughout the story with different outfits and hairstyles! I really enjoyed this creative touch to the story. And once again, there is tons of representation in the character design with characters of all shapes, sizes, and personal styles!
Although the usual art style is so colorful and expressive, I also really like the chibi form these characters take on during some parts of Daybreak. Chibi forms are always just so cute and silly!

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a really easy to read and laidback webcomic that is super sweet and wholesome, Daybreak is a great choice. It’s got some fantastic representation, a cute story, a lovely art style, and is a great read for first-time readers and experienced readers alike. It can be funny here and there, and isn’t too complicated story-wise. And, of course, the romance is so fluffy! Highly recommend!
