Daytime Star – Plot Summary

Daytime Star is a romance Webtoon that takes place in the entertainment industry. This story focuses on our main heroine, Yura Hwang, who has been an actress for seven years. Despite her determination and hard work, she has been stuck with side roles for quite some time.

During a shoot where she must play a character who has given up hope, she is able to do so very well after a few takes by remembering her current and past hardships.

With this dramatic scene, she catches the eye of famous actor Seunghyeon Kang. While shooting some scenes together for this movie, Yura and Seunghyeon experience an amazing chemistry, thus starting an exciting workplace romance story!

Why I Enjoyed Daytime Star

This story is so sweet, heartfelt, and exciting. The author has created such real characters with green-flag personalities. They have written a hardworking yet relatable heroine, and a hunky, considerate male lead.

I love stories that take place in the entertainment industry; for some reason it’s always so fun and engaging. Daytime Star has a common set up where one lead is already famous or popular (in this case, Seunghyeon) and the other is still working their way up or just starting.

However, even with this difference in position, Yura’s career doesn’t use Seunghyeon’s popularity as a stepping stone. He happens to connect her to a great opportunity here and there, but doesn’t go out of his way to help her rise in ranks or get more gigs. He simply helps support her from behind the scenes, such as being a form of encouragement!

It’s refreshing to see the heroine work hard to get to where she wants to be in her career through her own efforts and skills. My favorite manga of all time, Skip Beat, has a similar premise; so I could be a little biased!

Another amazing part of Daytime Star is that the art is so gorgeous. The characters are made up of beautiful actors and actresses, and they all have different designs, too.

I particularly love the way the author draws eyes; they are so stunning! The clothing in this webtoon is also very detailed and well-done. Every outfit has a unique style that suits each character perfectly. And of course, the main two characters are so attractive!

As for the romance, it builds slowly first and keeps you in suspense as you wait for the main two to make things official. Even though the feelings are obviously present, the author doesn’t just give you the relationship right away! I had such a fun time reading this story and waiting for more to happen.

Don’t worry though, this love story doesn’t take a million chapters to get somewhere. The pacing is so well done, pulling you in with suspense and giving you the romance when you least expect it!

The romance in this webtoon is literally so good, I was screaming internally the whole time. It’s the definition of a love story that will make you kick your feet. And, we get to see the entire journey of the relationship!

In the midst of all this, there is this fantastic humor we get from Yura’s inner thoughts and internal panic. I love her reactions, especially when she’s shy around Seunghyeon. These two also have their managers around often, who bring a lot of fun humor to Daytime Star as well!

One aspect you can look forward to about this romance is the communication. It’s effective, takes a realistic amount of time to take effect, and doesn’t leave you aggravated. Thank goodness for characters who can speak their feelings honestly!

However, that doesn’t make them perfect either. The author writes these characters to be pretty honest, but still balances their personalities to also be imperfect, jealous, or even childish, too.

These imperfections help Yura and Seunghyeon grow closer through their small love-related struggles, and build a deeper trust in their relationship (which is very important, especially in Yura’s case).

Throughout Daytime Star, the romance feels so natural and the chemistry is very obvious. The authors wrote such a compatible couple with interesting personalities; Yura as a beautiful, humble, and hardworking woman and Seunghyeon as a considerate, slightly sassy, and very thoughtful man.

Watching these characters grow closer and seeing Yura’s career success was such a great reading experience!

Any Cons?

I really don’t have many cons for this series. One thing I can possibly think of is that it is a little cheesy in the way that everything feels literally perfect, but that isn’t really a con for me.

After all, many readers enjoy reading about a perfect, ideal relationship. I also think I would have enjoyed seeing even more of Yura’s acting or jobs more in-depth; but the focus being mostly on romance wasn’t bad, either.

Regardless, definitely read Daytime Star and warm your heart with this sweet, passionate love story!

More In-Depth Review (Warning: Spoilers!)

I loved the way Daytime Star was written! Firstly, even though it is clear that there are feelings growing in both Yura and Seunghyeon’s hearts early in the story, the author still writes a believable romance where things take time to work out.

Yura had an unfortunate negative experience with her last relationship, and is rightfully afraid to start the next one. She knows that she can’t help but think about Seunghyeon, but is also scared to commit once again.

Seunghyeon on the other hand is obviously eager to start a relationship with her, and doesn’t hesitate to make moves. However, after noticing Yura’s hesitation, he quickly decides to respects her boundaries and agrees to wait for her (huge green flag).

It’s made clear that he is anxious to be with her, but still stays calm and patient. It is also made obvious that he still likes her very much during this period of time.

Their relationship moves on very appropriately and at a great pace. We see all kinds of drama in this series, but not in an annoying way that pushes the main two apart.

They communicate well, care for each other wholeheartedly, and make compromises when necessary for their careers. The relationship also feels pretty mature and written appropriately for two adults with established careers.

I loved seeing these two grow closer, and overall really enjoyed Daytime Star. The bonus spin-offs at the end of the story were so adorable and really helped seal the image of this couple’s wedding and overall relationship.

I loved that the authors included the little bit with their family growing, and how the main characters had gotten slightly older. These ending spin-offs helped make the story feel more complete, and even more satisfying!

Final Thoughts

This webtoon was well-written and beautiful! The romance is a combination of fluff, wholesomeness, and steaminess that makes a well-rounded love story.

It had me engaged from beginning to end (I actually binged the series in one go) and it even finished with a satisfying conclusion. The spin-off chapters are extremely cute and make the story feel even more complete. I highly recommend Daytime Star!
