For My Derelict Favorite – Plot Summary

The unnamed heroine of For My Derelict Favorite wakes up suddenly living the life of an unimportant side character in her favorite novel. Now going by the name of Hestia, she enjoys her time in the novel-world, watching the main plot of the novel unfold as it was written (as well as enjoying her character’s lavish wealth in the meantime).

The main two characters of the novel, Diana and Helios, get married. As she fangirls over her favorite characters, she assumes she will go back to her own life and own world, once the story’s ending occurs.

However, she finds herself stuck in the story-world even after all of the plot has finished! Therefore, she lives on wondering why she has been trapped, and even runs out of her character’s wealth.

Meanwhile, her most favorite character of the story, Caelus (who is the second male lead character), has also had his own tragic ending to the story, and the main relationship of the novel ends up very strained.

Having nothing left to do and nobody she cares for around, Hestia enters a temple and curses the main characters for ruining the second lead, and demands to the temple god that things be put right. Suddenly with a flash, she is put back to the point in time right when the novel had ended!

Without hesitation, Hestia runs to meet Caelus in an attempt to save his life. She had been given a second chance, and this determined heroine becomes set on making things right. When she arrives in time to save him, she demands she become his wife! This begins the main plot of this fantasy webtoon!

Why I Enjoyed For My Derelict Favorite

This webtoon’s story is so fun. The plot is engaging, and still unique even though the “reborn into a book” trope is used often. Although there are some heavy topics in the story, the author helps make things fun and lighthearted with the fact that our heroine, Hestia, is a fanatic fangirl.

It gives a rom-com feel to the story, and makes things very humorous. Since she is the main character of the webtoon, we see her thoughts and motivations the most.

Speaking of Hestia, her character is very likable. For My Derelict Favorite gives us a fantastic female lead. She’s relatable in her funny fangirl activities but also she’s incredibly determined and forward. Even when she felt trapped and isolated from her own life and world (having been put inside a novel) she still found the motivation to help another person.

She has a strong personality and is very smart, too. She doesn’t really rely on Caelus much, and is very independent. I love when writers give heroines a great, admirable personality like this!

I also love her relationship with Caelus’ butler, Uros. They both care about Caelus the most and want the best for him, so they sort of team up and often fangirl together. It’s hilarious. Uros is a fantastic supporting character that really adds to the rom-com vibe of this webtoon!

Caelus is another very likable character. Although very reserved at the start for good reasons, he opens up slowly and we get to see more of his character.

His design is gorgeous; Caelus looks like a cool beauty with long, white hair. He likes to arrange flowers and read. He even has flowers drawn next to his character frequently. It’s obvious why Hestia likes him the most!

It’s exciting to see his character grow to like Hestia more and more as she does everything in her power to help him. I also love second lead appreciation, considering the fact that sometimes second leads are just so well-designed, it’s a shame to see them fail in their love life!

Other than the fact that For My Derelict Favorite is filled with lots of drama, it also has a lot of detail and well-thought out plot content that help push the main events. Hestia is out for revenge, and so she has to navigate many different tasks and people to do so.

She has to act out her character very well, and think many things through. I can only imagine the amount of brainstorming and drafting this story took! It’s very engaging and never boring, with lots of anticipation for what’s to come next. Hestia is the best kind of villainess, only getting revenge on those who deserve it!

Another obvious plus about this webtoon is the art style. Lots of detail and attention go into the characters, their own personal color schemes, their outfits, and everything. Everything is beautifully designed, so this story is easy on the eyes and a pleasure to read!

The story is also very balanced in terms of political plot (since this webtoon has a fantasy setting with a social hierarchy system) and romance; giving us interesting content to push the story and the relationships! However, keep in mind the romance feels very slow-burn, due to the circumstances of Hestia’s and Caelus’ situations.

Any Cons?

I don’t have many cons for this story as it is well written and very enjoyable. However, the one thing that bothered me is that Hestia’s fangirling attitude towards Caelus is a bit much sometimes. It’s humorous most of the time, but having her say things like “my baby” in her head or to herself is just a bit awkward.

Caelus is a grown man, so I feel like that takes it a bit far. Otherwise, the fangirling is funny and relatable. Her character does baby him just a bit, but considering his character’s situation, I can understand.

Final Thoughts

For My Derelict Favorite has been very enjoyable. An enticing plot, hilarious characters, and cute, fluffy romance. This romance had a slow start, but that’s my favorite genre so I’m 100% here for it!
