This is the first review on my website for a manhua! If you’ve read RMR’s about page, you may know that I am primarily a Japanese manga enthusiast and I haven’t really explored the Chinese counterpart, known as manhua, much yet.
So, I’m very excited to talk about the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua for my first Chinese manhua review! Just to clarify, the version I am reviewing in this blog is the manhua comic adaptation of the original novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, specifically the version illustrated by STARember.
I originally started the series digitally back when the Bilibili Comics app was available in my region, but nowadays you can find physical copies of the series published by Inklore.
Heaven Official’s Blessing – Plot Summary
The story of the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua starts quickly by introducing the main character, Xie Lian. Xie Lian is a noble crown prince in Heaven, who had ascended and became a god with many worshippers. For some reason, he descended multiple times; losing his worshippers, respect from other nobles, and most of his power.
800 years later, he ascends once again with nothing to his name other than a large debt. Therefore, he begins working towards clearing his debt and recreating his temple for new worshippers.
Somewhere along the journey, he meets an interesting and mysterious person by the name of San Lang, and they develop a friendship and feeling of trust rather quickly! And perhaps something more, too…
Although this story has a slow romance, it is also filled with a unique, engaging story full of adventure, suspense, and action. If you love a slow build towards romance and stories with plenty of plot, definitely give the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua a read.
Why I Enjoyed Heaven Official’s Blessing
This manhua stunned me with its incredibly gorgeous art style. Each and every panel looks beautiful and intricate, almost as if the entire work was painted with extreme care (which is entirely possible with manhua).
It is a completely different vibe than what I’m used to in manga or manhwa, so I was pleasantly surprised by this gorgeous art.
The first thing I really liked and noticed about this story is Xie Lian’s character and point of view. Because he has been absent from Heaven for so long, he’s unfamiliar with the current events and influential people. Even though he has lived very long, this point of view is enjoyable because readers, in a way, get to learn and discover secrets alongside him during his journeys.
In terms of character, Xie Lian is very likable. He isn’t egotistic, and is eager to work hard during this new ascension. He is very logical, and seems like an understanding, gentle person.
Then we have the other lead, San Lang (who also has many other names during the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua). He is mysterious, knowledgeable, and a bit odd. He’s a nice contrast to Xie Lian, with a more sassy and confident attitude. He is also very smooth and effortlessly romantic! I love this contrast, as it makes for a really enjoyable relationship dynamic.

The slow burn romance is, as usual, very enjoyable. I love slow burns a for good reason. In the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua adaptation, we see mutual pining and an overall healthy relationship.
The two in question act respectful and nonjudgmental towards each other. There are feelings of understanding, consideration, and devotion between the two that makes the romance more wholesome, unconditional, and sweet.
It gives the feeling that these two characters are soulmates, or that they were together in past lives. They just click so well! It is a very beautiful portrayal of love, and I cannot wait to see more as the manhua continues being adapted.
Besides the romance, this story is rich in adventurous plot. We see a wide range of supporting characters and events that allow us to slowly explore more of the story’s world. Readers get to enjoy learning more about these characters as they uncover truths and complete difficult trials and tasks.
The fantasy elements are extraordinary and very unique. I loved seeing both the beautiful fantasy elements as well as the sort of darker fantasy elements in this story; portrayed through aspects like magic, travel, shapeshifting, otherworldly creatures, world-building, and action.
The unique setting and plot in Heaven Official’s Blessing felt so creative and impressive. I think stories like this are so enjoyable and engaging because the author has meticulously crafted a world so unique to our own experiences. It is easy to see why this series has such a large and loyal following!
A lot of this story’s world contains Chinese cultural references, which were so beautiful and fun to see depicted through art. If you are interested and enjoy learning, definitely look more into the meanings behind the cultural references in this series (such as cultivation, immortality, fate, ghosts, etc.). They are very interesting and also may help you better understand the story.
The Heaven Official’s Blessing adaptations and original novel are incomplete and currently on hiatus for unknown reasons. However, it is still a widely loved series and has plenty of fantastic content to enjoy—so if you’re okay with starting an unfinished series, go ahead and give it a try.
Any Cons?
I have just a few cons for this series. Firstly, Heaven Official’s Blessing has a lot going on. For example, the fantasy aspects of the story often happened unexplained. It’s fun to see a lot of unique fantasy elements, but occasionally I had difficulty understanding what was happening.
There’s also a lot of story to take in with a lot of characters and unexplained world-building. I often found myself overwhelmed or confused with the sudden and frequent introduction of new characters. Therefore, I wanted to put a small warning for those similar to me, who may have trouble keeping up with all the different events and characters.
I also read the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua as someone with little to no understanding of the cultural references found throughout the story. This likely contributed to my own lack of understanding; so it may not be the story’s fault.
Additionally, because the manhua is an adaptation of the original novel story, I may just be missing some extra details and background. For this reason, many people recommend enjoying the novel in addition to the adaptations for better background and understanding!
For the second and last con, I want to warn impatient readers that the plot is written to be a bit mysterious, with the purpose of slowly unraveling unexplained events or plot along the way. So you’ll need to keep reading to better understand more of the plot—and, this series ends on an indefinite hiatus.
The romance is also a slow burn as mentioned before; so if you’re impatient with romantic progress, you may not like the Heaven Official’s Blessing series.
Final Thoughts
Although the immense amount of plot and references in this series is intimidating, it is still an incredibly intriguing and gorgeous manhua nonetheless.
With such lovely visuals, interesting characters, a slow-burn romance, and a fantastical storyline, you absolutely won’t be bored while reading the Heaven Official’s Blessing manhua adaptation. I love the beautiful romance in this stunning manhua, and cannot wait to (hopefully) see more of it in the future!
