Plot Summary
Readers looking for a lighthearted, humorous story will likely love this romcom slice of life manga. Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka (Or Kuzumi Kun, Can’t You Read The Room? in English) starts with high-school student Erika Sakura sitting in class, irritated. She can’t seem to get her classmate, Kuzumi-kun, out of her head.
Erika is a cute girl who happens to be the most popular girl in school. Kuzumi on the other hand is an uninterested, unaware guy who just sort of does whatever he wants in his own little world.
This makes them a funny pair, especially since Erika is very emoted and dramatic. She contrasts a lot to Kuzumi’s very unbothered demeanor, as he is pretty stoic and rarely speaks.
Erika cannot help her interest in Kuzumi, but also denies her growing feelings for him. Follow along in this cute and silly story, as Erika tries to understand this unique classmate of hers and her own feelings. Accepting how she feels becomes a big challenge for Erika, but not as big of a challenge as getting Kuzumi to actually notice her!
In this Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka review, I’ll discuss what I enjoyed about this cute story while trying not to ruin any major plot points.

Why I Enjoyed Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka
Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka primarily follows Erika, as she does the most talking and has a lot of inner dialogue. This actually isn’t a bad thing at all, as it adds to the humor of the story. She makes a lot of assumptions about people, and has some exaggerated reactions to simple things.
Even though she often says that Kuzumi irritates her for being in his own little world, she too seems to get absorbed in her own thoughts. Her character is really funny, and I love the interactions she has with others while zoning out.
Kuzumi is also pretty well-developed for a character that doesn’t have much dialogue. His actions are so funny, and sometimes he’ll really surprise you. I love his character design, because although he is very plain, it worked well for this romcom.
He’s so chill and unbothered, and his hair makes me think of a chicken, haha. Although the author seems to leaves that part of his hair out of some specific, more “meaningful” panels, which I’m unsure was intentional or not. Regardless, I think his design is great for the slice of life vibe brought by Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka.
As I mentioned before, this series has a great style of comedy. It is focused mainly on inner monologues and the ridiculousness of some character personalities. Seeing stoic Kuzumi depicted in unexpected ways was really funny, as was Erica’s demeanor.
There are also her friends and Kuzumi’s friends, who all have unique, funny personalities. Overall, the characters are mostly a bunch of silly high school students that do or say dumb things, so it’s funny and relatable. All the characters in this manga are weird in a fun, silly way that fits the humor. I especially liked Kuzumi’s friend, Haruna.
Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka may have a lot of humor, but the build up to the very pure romance is so fun and very much a slow burn. It’s not really super romantic or crazy, but very cute and rather realistic for a first crush experience at least.
Kuzumi’s character is a bit mysterious, and you’ll keep wondering how things will play out for this unique pair. Waiting for their progress becomes suspenseful, and the overall story is actually very sweet in the end.
I had a lot of laughs at the bizarre situations these students get themselves into, and also really enjoyed seeing the development of relationships between all the characters. Of course, the relationship between Erika and Kuzumi was the most exciting. This story is so full of silly humor, pure love, and goofy characters.

Any Cons?
For people who get bored easily or hate very slow burn romances, this story may not be the best pick for you. It’s a lot of silliness, slow progress, and denial of feelings.
Readers who don’t like tsundere character types who constantly deny their feelings may also not like this series. I will say that although Erika may deny her feelings often, she isn’t super annoying and her character doesn’t adhere strongly to other tsundere characteristics.
If you’re someone who dislikes character design outside of the common conventionally attractive romance leads, then you may not like Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka. I personally really enjoyed this aspect and think it really added to the comedic parts of the story (and shows that love can be found anywhere (´。• ᵕ •。`) ♡ ).
Some readers may also not like the fact that Kuzumi does not speak much in this manga, but again, I liked it and I think that part of him contributed to the relaxed, slice-of-life feel of the story.
Final Thoughts
Kuzumi Kun Kuuki Yometemasu Ka is an easy-to-enjoy romcom with a cute but very silly plot. It gave me a lot of laughs, and was even a bit exciting at times. This manga isn’t too long, but has a decent amount of content with 8 volumes.
It has an easygoing, slice-of-life plot primarily focused on two very different characters who experience a slow burn romance. I think the romance was finished off pretty well at the end, too. I really enjoyed this series, and recommend it for any reader needing a lighter, bingeable, and funny read!
