Love in the Palm of His Hand – Plot Summary
This lovely BL romance follows a fast-blooming relationship between two university students: Aoi Fujinaga, an aspiring actor and literature student, and a deaf student named Keito who is majoring in education. These two happen to meet on a train, and again on their university’s campus! With these two coincidental meetings, they begin to hang out more often.
As these two become friends, Fujinaga naturally starts to learn a bit of sign language while communicating with Keito. Fujinaga is a quick learner and is able to effectively communicate with his own sort of interpretive gestures, a talent he has from his experience in acting and theater.
These two students quickly hit it off. They both have unfortunate experiences with being misunderstood, but because they both put a lot of effort into their communication, their conversations quickly become joyful experiences for them both!
Why You Should Read Love in the Palm of His Hand
Plot:
Because there are only a few volumes of this series so far, this is really just a first impression review. However, this manga series has such a cute story and a totally sweet romance that shines through even with the amount of content currently available.
Things move along pretty quickly in the relationship, but the romance is super sweet, soft, and fluffy. The relationship and characters’ feelings feel so genuine and sincere, so even the fast pace doesn’t really feel too fast.
So, if you’d like a lovely BL romance with tons of cuteness, but don’t want to read tons of volumes before anything actually starts to happen romance-wise, definitely check this series out!

There are many other aspects to the plot I’ve enjoyed so far in addition to the romance. For example, the way the artist takes the time to draw many different hand gestures for JSL even within the same few panels is really impressive and immersive. The characters still communicate with speech at times, but simultaneously use sign language throughout their dialogue, too. It’s very well illustrated!
Additionally, I like the other non-romance sides of the plot. So far we have explored more of Fujinaga’s acting career, which has been very interesting and beautiful. It’s exciting and still requires Keito to play an important supporting role. There’s been plenty to enjoy so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more from this lovely series!
Characters:
There’s still more to learn about each character, but so far they are both incredibly cute. Fujinaga has a passion for acting and theater, and puts a lot of effort into expressing his character.
I really like the depiction of his character when he’s acting vs when he’s with Keito. It feels a bit different—even though he’s so outgoing and expressive when it comes to acting, he’s much more shy around a certain someone! He’s a very cute character.
Keito, on the other hand, is much more forward and perhaps a bit more touchy-feely. He plays a major role in supporting Fujinaga’s acting career, and a leading role in the romance. I really like his character, and hope to see an arc focusing more on his passions or experiences soon!
Art:
I really liked the art throughout Love in the Palm of His Hand; it really hones in on the characters themselves and their gestures or facial expressions.
I love the close ups of the characters when they are speaking or being more intimate—their faces are just so beautifully illustrated and their interactions are interesting. It really makes the whole theme of communication and conveying emotions even more lovely!

Additionally, the art style and character design is very unique and beautiful. It has a certain charm to it, as it feels like there is so much detail to the character’s movements, expressions, and appearances. I really enjoyed looking at all the different details throughout the panels!
Any Cons?
I can’t really think of any cons for this series. It’s going great so far!
Final Thoughts
So far I think Love in the Palm of His Hand is incredibly sweet and cute! I’m excited to learn more about these characters as the series progresses, and of course see more romance. If you’ve started this manga too, feel free to leave your thoughts on it below!
