Love Me to Death – Plot Summary
Love Me to Death is actually one of the very few stories and webtoons I’ve read that involves a poly relationship. It starts in the city of San Guadario, where necromancy or any form of magic is both banned and hated.
The main character is a necromancer named Victor Franco-Santino, who is hired by a wealthy citizen to perform the task of bringing his new wife, Mercedes Iglesias, back to life from the grave. During their wedding ceremony, she mysteriously collapsed, leaving Enrique Olivarez alone and confused.
Enrique is the handsome owner of a well-known city bank. He offers Victor a handsome reward in exchange for this risky, illegal task. This reward would let Victor live as a necromancer somewhere where it isn’t hated and illegal. Enrique even got his hands on an ancient spell to allow this all to work out.
Victor agrees to help, but the resurrection spell goes a little strangely, connecting Victor to Mercedes in an interesting (and sort of spicy) way. Not only that, but Mercedes has no memories of her life, and only Victor seems to be able to hear her speak!
Why I Enjoyed Love Me to Death
The premise for this story is very interesting and unique. There’s no shortage of zombie love stories out there, but the necromancy twist in the plot of Love Me to Death makes it fun and more interesting.
The three main characters are forced to be more involved with each other too, and end up overcoming a lot of other challenges together besides the whole undead-wife thing.
Like I mentioned before, this story involves a poly romance! This romance builds slowly but naturally between the characters as they learn more about each other during the dangerous situations they find themselves in. Each character has their own faults as well as their own good points, and they all learn to respect and trust each other as a whole.
It’s a wholesome romance that requires the three of them to learn to rely on each other! I honestly didn’t see the poly relationship coming at first, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this sort of representation in a webtoon.
The romance can feel wholesome, extremely sweet, and occasionally a little spicy throughout the story as it progresses. It is a very enjoyable romance story with an interesting plot that pushes from the background, too!
I also like the characters a lot. Firstly, the main character of Love Me to Death, Victor, is a likable character with an unknown background. All we know is he’s obviously a good natured person, trying to live his life in a city that hates his powers and abilities.
Even with his mistreatment, he didn’t become a bad person, but still does what he has to in order to survive. He’s a total sweetheart, and I really liked his character. He also has a cute little cat friend named Gato.
Mercedes is a beautiful character who, after being resurrected, doesn’t magically become her old self. She has to sort of re-learn about her life and what happened to her. All she knows is she is alive, and looks slightly different.
She quickly finds herself meeting multiple people whom she doesn’t even remember. This situation forces her to make decisions on who to trust and what to think of her strange situation. Luckily, she is naturally strong-willed and brave!

Then we have Enrique, who I originally thought would be a villainous character that I’d come to hate. I imagined he’d be the spoiled rich brat who would betray Victor, but he actually is very level-headed, understanding, smart, and reliable. He became a much better character in Love Me to Death than I expected, which was a nice surprise!
Another great part of this story is the art and design. It’s very colorful, and the author(s) includes some fun animated panels in this webtoon, too! It is very toon-like throughout the story and isn’t too complicated in terms of style, but is still nice and I personally think it becomes a bit more polished as the story progresses.
I also have really liked the magical and fantasy aspects of this series. The lore and plot feel well-planned and come across very mysterious and interesting!
We get to slowly learn more about Victor’s necromancy powers and why his magic is so hated by the city. Not to mention Mercedes is literally undead the whole time, which brings more fun and humor to the story, too!
Overall Love Me to Death is unique, suspenseful, and interesting. Readers get to enjoy a slightly slow burn romance, and a developed plot throughout the story, too. There is even a bit of humor spread out throughout the story to balance it all out.
Any Cons?
There’s a lot of fan-service in this webtoon. It’s not like the typical horrendous anime fan service, and it’s on Webtoon, so it is sort of tolerable at least.
Mostly just shirtless characters and many skin-showing outfits for all characters. And perhaps some suggestive dialogue/content. It’s a little annoying to me personally, but some readers may not mind as much.
There’s also a lot of innuendos in the dialogue. I haven’t seen a webtoon take this approach alongside a bunch of fan-service before, but luckily the story is interesting enough for me to see past it. It’s not really my thing, but other readers may find some humor in it.
Other than that, there aren’t very many cons. I think the art style could be a little more detailed or polished here and there, but it isn’t bad at all.
It leans more towards a colorful toon style, as the name of the author-group sort of suggests in the first place. The story is very fun and interesting, and the romance is sweet and wholesome, so I have no other complaints!
Final Thoughts
Love Me to Death has been a very fun and interesting read thus far. It’s romantic, adventurous, magical, and colorful. Toonimated has done it yet again with other unique webtoon with lovely, animated panels and fun characters!
