Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite Plot Summary
In the last post, I recommended a fun BL vampire romance for this October. This time, I have another vampire-themed recommendation, but a much more tame one…
This cute story follows Hina Arukado (Alucard), a vampire from Romania who moves to Japan after discovering a love for anime. She particularly loves a character named Mao Rysuzaki from a series called Vampire Cross. When she arrives in Japan and meets her first neighbor, he happens to look just like Mao!
However, this person turns out to be nothing like Hina’s beloved character. This man, Kyuta Amanatsu, is much more rude and blunt! And because he lives right next door, they begin to see each other much more often…
This manga has a pretty fun spin on the modern vampire trope, and makes for a very cute romcom story! If you’re looking for a lighthearted series to enjoy this spooky season, Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite may be perfect!
This cute shoujo series is by the same creator as Kamisama Hajimemashita (or Kamisama Kiss) so fans of Julietta Suzuki should be especially excited (especially considering the ML is another tsundere of sorts)!

Why You Should Read Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite
Plot:
I’ll admit, I don’t have too much to say about the plot of this manga. This shoujo series is pretty easygoing, often just following Hina’s silly otaku shenanigans and interactions with Kyuta and others. It’s a good choice for readers who just want something simple, cute, and silly to enjoy!
The plot is primarily focused on lighthearted humor and a slow burn romance (my favorite!). In other words, it doesn’t feel like there’s much of a main plot that pushes the story, and instead it mostly consists of goofy daily events with a bit of a vampire theme throughout (which did help make it a little more interesting).
I will note that although this series is primarily comedy and cute fluff, there is often some sort of random conflict at hand, especially with other vampires, so I wouldn’t consider this story completely no-conflict. It just heavily balances its conflict with goofy characters and cuteness, and doesn’t ever seem to make any conflict too deep or important.
Regardless of the more easygoing plot, the romance is slowly blooming in the story so far—and it seems like it will be a cute and fluffy one. It consists of two of my favorite romance tropes: slow burn developments and a tsundere male lead. It has yet to develop entirely in the volumes currently available, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out in the future!
Another important aspect of the plot I wanted to discuss was the portrayal of the main character’s hobbies. “Otaku” characters are typically made to be super weird, unsociable, unattractive, and the subject of bullying. However, Hina is a refreshingly sweet and cute character regardless of her hobbies and obsession over her favorite anime.
The series even showcases fun things like café collabs and anime merch, and only lightheartedly pokes fun at Hina’s passion for the anime. In short, I really liked Hina and never got that second-hand embarrassment from her character as I have with other otaku characters.
Lastly and most obviously, the best part of the series so far is the vampire trope. As I mentioned there are many other vampires besides Hina to look forward to, as well as an interesting dynamic when it comes to how the vampires treat each other. I also just enjoyed Hina’s characterization as a modern vampire and all the cute outfits she wears, haha!
Characters:
Out of all the characters in Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite, Hina stands out the most. She is a bubbly and cute girl who simply wants to have some fun collecting merch of her favorite anime character. She tries hard to find a fellow Mao fan or fans of the anime she likes in general, while also slowly growing her friendships with those around her.
She’s a pretty standard shoujo protagonist: kind, earnest, cute, and a little clueless. The one thing that makes her a bit different is her vampirism, and her design that follows suit!
Ryuta, on the other hand, is much less bubbly. He often has a stern or rude way of speaking, and his character overall seems to be a bit angrier (or perhaps more stressed out) than the other characters. However, he is a rather caring and thoughtful person in actuality.
He’s a bit of a tsundere, yet he’s surprisingly expressive at times and mostly seems just very perturbed by the goofy people around him. Ryuta sort of bordered the line of a “too mean” tsundere for me, but luckily the author saves him with his good side often enough to maintain my impression of him.
There are some side characters in the series that are pretty fun and keep things interesting, but I don’t want to spoil the series too much, so I’ll leave them as a surprise for readers to discover.

Art:
Julietta Suzuki’s art has always been lovely, but I’m also always excited to see authors change things up. I loved the style of Kamisama Kiss, but Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite has a wonderful modern feel to it and is absolutely adorable.
The shading, character design, environment, and overall “shoujo feel” to it is superb! I think the best part of the art is the use of darker tones throughout the series, which is often used to achieve Hina’s super cute modern vampire looks and fashion choices!

Any Cons?
This story is very cute, but I do have a few cons for it.
Firstly, even though there is the occasional conflict in this series, it overall just feels like a silly romcom with a cute vampire theme. It doesn’t get too plot-heavy, so there isn’t a deep story or much depth to the characters. If you’re looking for something a bit more engaging or story-focused, this shoujo may not be the right pick!
Similarly to the previous point, I feel like most of the conflict is a bit random and trope-ish. Here’s some examples you can click/tap to reveal, if you’d like to know more and don’t mind being spoiled: An unexpected stalking incident, family members sort of getting in the way, love rivals, etc. Overall, the plot of this series is cute, but feels a bit less developed compared to the author’s other works.
Lastly, this manga technically has an age gap of sorts. I personally don’t mind when it comes to supernatural beings like with this series, but Hina is a vampire and therefore may be much older than Kyuta. Kyuta’s exact age isn’t mentioned, but he seems to be a college student.
If this sort of thing bothers you, maybe skip this series! I will say that regardless of their ages, they both look and act like they are in a similar age group, with Hina being slightly more immature and new to navigating life in Japan.
Final Thoughts
Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite is a pretty cute romcom series that makes for a fun lighthearted option to pick up just in time for Halloween (or anytime, really). The characters are cute and the vampire aspect of the series was much more involved than I expected! Although the plot is not super deep, I have still enjoyed the story so far. I’m hoping for more romance in future volumes, too. Happy Halloween!
