Supernatural Manga and Webtoon Recommendations
The following recommendations are all unique in their own way, containing supernatural events or characters that keep the story interesting. What do I mean by supernatural? In regards to these stories, “supernatural” is referring to abilities or events that seem unnatural—things that you wouldn’t see in real life!
I think romances with supernatural elements are super fun, keep things exciting, and feel very imaginative. While I do enjoy stories involving ghosts or spirits, that won’t be the only type of “supernatural” element you’ll find in these reviews.
If you’re someone who loves all types of romance, you’ll love these strange and interesting stories. Enjoy!

1. Kijima san to Yamada san
Author: Hoshimi SK
Number of Chapters: 25

Completed
We’ll start with the more tame supernatural manga recommendations! If you want a fun and interesting manga that’s also super sweet and wholesome, Kijima san to Yamada san is a great pick! It’s a short and easy read with a very cute office romance plot.
The male lead and main character, Kijima, has the ability to hear people’s thoughts. He’s learned to deal with this ability; however, a lovely lady who works alongside him (Yamada) happens to have very loud thoughts. In fact, she has a crush on Kijima, and has the funniest fangirl or panicky thoughts around him!
This supernatural manga has a really cute and rom-com type of plot, that’s also pretty laid back. There’s no crazy drama or anything, either. Kijima san to Yamada san is just a silly and fun romance between two adults. While the romance can be mature at times, it can also be pretty fluffy and sweet. I really enjoyed this story; it was very cute and wholesome.
2. Operation True Love
Author: Kkokkalee and Dledumb
Number of Chapters: 137+
Operation True Love Webtoon page
Ongoing
This second recommendation quickly gained popularity during its release. It has an engaging plot, with some pretty crazy events that happen in the background of a high school romance story. Out of this list of supernatural mangas and Webtoons, this one is more drama-focused than supernatural focused. However, when the story does revert back to the mysterious, it comes back in full force!
The plot follows student Su-Ae Shim, who happens to find an old-school flip phone with strange abilities. These abilities consist of knowing about Su-Ae’s daily life or activities, and also showing people’s “love points.”
Love points are a numerical indication of how much love a person will receive in their lifetime. For some reason, Su-Ae’s love points are zero. And according to the phone’s messenger, that’s an issue…so if she doesn’t change that number, she’ll be exterminated. Creepy!
This phone follows her everywhere, sends taunting messages, and seems unbreakable; practically forcing her to keep it. With this strange dilemma at hand and her life on the line, Su-Ae takes action to fill her love points quickly.
However, this goal isn’t easy! Poor Su-Ae has a cruddy boyfriend, bad luck, and some backstabbing friends. The drama in this series is wild, but the potential love interests are very interesting, so be sure to check this Webtoon out!
3. The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
Author: Miyuki Tonogaya
Number of Chapters: 70+

Ongoing
Similarly to the first recommendation, this series is a supernatural manga with total cuteness. It’s another office romance, this time following Himuro, a descendant of a snow woman (which is a Japanese yokai, or supernatural being).
This means that Himuro creates snowy or cold environmental conditions around him, particularly when he’s emotional. This can be in the form of snowstorms, little snowmen, snowflakes, and so on.
It just so happens that Himuro has a big crush on his coworker Fuyutsuki. He often has his snow-reactions around her because of this, which makes his and his coworker’s daily life interesting, haha. This story is made up of short, slice-of-life-style rom-com chapters, making it a fun and easy read.
Himuro and Fuyutsuki have pretty cute personalities, with Fuyutsuki being a calm and collected “cool girl” and Himuro being a pretty chill bit also fanboyish guy. I actually love his personality, it’s super funny! Overall, this supernatural manga is really cute and fun!
4. Nevermore
Author: Kate Flynn and Kit Trace
Number of Chapters: 154+
Ongoing
Now we’re getting into the more strange plots within this supernatural manga and Webtoon list! This one has more recognizable supernatural elements, with a lot of inspiration and references from Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry.
It follows two lovely ladies, Lenore and Annabel, who have very different personalities and values. These two find themselves in a unique academy of the afterlife, where they’ll be competing with other students for a second chance at life.
This story is full of supernatural occurrences, creatures, abilities, and settings. The plot is filled with drama, suspense, and creepy elements. This supernatural Webtoon is very unique and has a really gorgeous art style. It also has a fantastic story with tons of drama, plot twists, and a pretty mysterious romance. It’s still ongoing, but I can’t wait to find out how this romance and story will end!
5. Even if You Slit My Mouth
Author: Akari Kajimoto
Number of Chapters: 80 chapters + extras
Even If You Slit My Mouth Manga Plus page
Completed
This is another cute recommendation with surprisingly more story to it than I expected. This supernatural manga has a lot more traditional supernatural aspects to it, such as ghosts and creatures commonly known in Japanese folklore or urban legends.
The main characters are Miroku, who is a slit-mouth woman (her folklore story is explained more in my full review), and a man who is in love with her, named Koichi.
These two make an agreement to compete until the end of the year. In this competition, Miroku must scare Koichi at least once, otherwise they will get married. Koichi obviously wants to get married, and is determined to make Miroku fall for him. Miroku, on the other hand, just wants to do her scaring hobbies.
This interesting story is a fun slow-burn romance with tons of interesting characters from different mythologies and urban legends. Other than the romance, this supernatural manga also has plenty of story and plot content to enjoy, too!
6. Kaiju Girl Caramelise
Author: Spica Aoki
Number of Chapters: 8 volumes, around 56+ chapters
Kaiju Girl Caramelise Yen Press page
Ongoing
Next we have a fun and interesting supernatural manga with a cute romance! This very shoujo-esque (but not actually shoujo) story is about a high school girl named Kuroe, who just so happens to turn into a kaiju (large monster) when she becomes emotional.
She is a bit of a social outcast, fearful that others will discover her strange alternate appearance, which often appears only partially (such as claws, a tail, horns, etc). However, her world is turned upside down when a handsome boy in her class expresses interest in her, causing her emotions to fluctuate even more!
This supernatural manga is more on the cuter side, with really adorable shoujo art styles and plot elements. It’s comically interrupted by Kuroe’s full kaiju form, but even that version of her is sort of cute! This sweet and silly story is a fun representation of the embarrassing and awkward stage of life where you enter adulthood, experience weird emotions, and start to fall in love!
I love the kaiju elements of this story; they are very unique and sort of hilarious. Therefore, this supernatural manga recommendation is also sort of a romcom. If you love romcom stories, check out my romcom manga recommendations, too!
7. Last Quarter
Author: Ai Yazawa
Number of Chapters: 2 Volumes, 15 Chapters
Completed
For our last recommendation, we have an amazing Ai Yazawa story. Most people are familiar with Yazawa’s other works, but I don’t often see this one talked about even though I found it to be incredible! This unique supernatural manga follows a 17 year old girl named Mizuki, who seems to have had a falling out with her family. She often finds solace in a handsome English musician named Adam.
When Adam tells Mizuki he’s leaving in a few weeks, she decides to join him—but is hit by a car on the way. At the same time, a 5th grade student named Hotaru is hospitalized. In Hotaru’s dreams, she meets Mizuki… a supernatural mystery! This strange occurrence is investigated by a Hotaru and her friends, as they try and discover what happened to Mizuki.
This story is a little light on the romance, as we don’t necessarily see Mizuki and Adam interact a ton throughout the plot, but Ai Yazawa is so skilled at writing emotional stories that I still feel like the romance in this manga mattered significantly. There’s a lot to like about this incredible story, so if you’re into supernatural mysteries, definitely check it out!
Final Thoughts
I think I had a pretty decent variety of supernatural manga and webtoon recommendations for this list. We had cute, wholesome stories, as well as more creepy and ghost-related supernatural plots. I think supernatural aspects mixed with romance makes stories super fun, so I hope you’ve enjoyed this manga list!
