Romcom Webtoons and Their Unique Humor
This list of recommendations explores a few fun romcom webtoons that I’ve really enjoyed. Some of them are ongoing, but still have a lot of content to enjoy already. I haven’t reviewed many webtoons lately, as I’ve been on a big manga kick, but for some reason a lot of what I’ve been reading recently is romcoms.
Romcoms just have a fun blend of story and humor, and I’ve found that webtoons often have the ability to make me laugh to the point of tears. I really love the comedy used in webtoons, especially since the rest of the plot can often be very wholesome. The humor ranges widely, utilizing subtle jokes, surprising situations, or just downright ridiculous events.
So, for this list of recommendations I’ve included some fun romcom webtoons that really just made me feel happy while reading, and had me laughing quite often. The humor is slightly different in all of these, so they all have their own charm. I hope you enjoy!

1. After School Lessons for Unripe Apples
Author: Soonkki
Number of Chapters: 159+ chapters
After School Lessons for Unripe Apples Webtoon page
Status: Ongoing
This first recommendation is one of my absolute favorite romcom webtoons. It is such a silly, youthful story about two middle school students who are reunited after meeting for some time during their early childhood years. However, becoming friends again poses a lot of challenges and hilarious obstacles.
This story brilliantly captures the awkwardness and weirdness of being young and in middle school. Making friends, developing feelings for the first time, studying, getting in trouble with parents; this webtoon shows the ups and downs of it all.
What makes this story especially hilarious is the contrast between the two main characters’ personalities—especially the eccentric, earnest personality of the heroine, Mi-Ae. She is unapologetically herself, and it is a joy to read.
The romance in this series is very age-appropriate, and perfectly portrays the embarrassment of a first crush. Overall this romcom webtoon is incredibly wholesome, and has such a fun plot. You’ll grow to love the characters in this story, while laughing the entire time over your second-hand embarrassment.
2. Your Smile is a Trap!
Author: Aengo
Number of Chapters: 149+ chapters

Status: Ongoing
Your Smile is a Trap! is an extremely wholesome story about two students who struggle with their appearances. One is a girl who looks angry and terrifying, and the other is an ex-idol trainee who is just too beautiful. Both of these two simply want to enjoy school without too much attention or conflict over how they look.
Unexpectedly, these two end up more and more involved in each others’ lives, resulting in a very silly yet sweet slow burn romance.
I enjoyed how this story takes a slightly exaggerated approach to the humor, while still keeping a sweet and wholesome feel to the characters’ personalities and the plot overall. Oftentimes the humor originates from unexpected things the characters do or say, which makes this webtoon very fun to read even with a rather simple plot.
It also nicely explores how you can have prejudiced opinions towards others, even without ill intentions. In other words, this cute romcom webtoon takes a fun and humorous approach to the “don’t judge a book by its cover” idiom.
3. Villain With a Crush
Author: Seyoon
Number of Chapters: 120 chapters, + extras
Villain With a Crush Webtoon page
Status: Completed
This recommendation’s plot takes place in a world where superpowers are completely normal; a large portion of the population lives with their own unique power. However, they range widely: Your superpower can be anywhere from completely useless, incredibly OP, or somewhere in between.
This wide range makes the story very funny, as even the silliest of powers are utilized for criminal activity. Those who have more useful or stronger powers often become a part of a special department of the city law enforcement, to protect those who don’t have powers from those who misuse theirs.
So, this story follows a young girl who happens to randomly develop incredibly strong powers that she can’t seem to control. This makes the entire city wrongly dub her as a villain. However, she happens to be in love with the strongest member of the superhero law enforcement!
As she tries to get closer with him, a whirlwind of hilarious misunderstandings and crazy events happen. Villain With a Crush is a romcom webtoon that takes on a lot of ridiculous events, characters, and situations. The absolute craziness of the story is what makes it so funny to me, and I never knew what to expect while reading. Give it a try!
4. No Office Romance!
Author: Dooboo and Namsoo
Number of Chapters: 57+ chapters
No Office Romance Webtoon page
Status: Ongoing
This next romcom webtoon recommendation is one I am very excited for! It is a collaboration with the author of Romance 101, Namsoo. I really liked that work, and so far No Office Romance! has been a joy to read as well.
It follows Yunji Oh, who studied abroad overseas for some time, leaving behind a good friend and her first love, Saebom, in Korea. While she’s gone, she cuts contact for some reason, but later returns to Korea for a job running festivals.
Unfortunately, this job doesn’t go as well as expected, and Yunji finds herself searching for new jobs. But then, she runs into her first love again after their ten-year separation—and he works at the company she’s applying to. Luckily for Yunji, she is hired at the company!
However, due to their long-term friendship, the two childhood friends agree to pretend to meet for the first time at work. Their company has a history of employees who love to gossip about romance, and pester those who seem close. Therefore, they make an agreement in an attempt to prevent that annoyance from happening: No office romance allowed!
This romcom webtoon follows Yunji as she experiences the struggles of gaining traction in her career, as well as the ups and downs of both dating and friendships. It has a fun and energetic feel to it, with a more mature romantic setting. The humor in this story feels relatable and more character-focused—featuring a lighter type of comedy!
5. A Whirlwind Campus Affair
Author: Uiyoung
Number of Chapters: 96 chapters
A Whirlwind Campus Affair Webtoon page
Status: Completed
This fun romcom webtoon follows a group of creative college students and a lot of drama that happens amongst their major. This occurs primarily in response to the heroine, Baram Oh, who earned a reputation as the “art major homewrecker” for her past relationship with a professor. She takes a break from school after this incident, but later decides to return.
Baram was a fantastic protagonist. Her character had a lot of depth, showcasing not only a fun, bubbly character on the outside, but also a mature, strong woman on the inside. Things start off rough for her, but she perseveres, growing to love herself better and understand others more, too. And of course, allows herself to fall in love again—this time, with a much better ending.
This story is a lot more mature and has some more serious topics than the other romcom webtoons on this list of recommendations, but it was such a joy to read. The humor in this webtoon is mostly centered around over-exaggerated facial expressions, especially by the heroine, and well as some other very interesting personality types in this series.
The characters themselves are what’s funny, and this worked well to balance some of the more serious events that happen throughout the plot. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it!
6. The Crown Princess Scandal
Author: Jeonghyeon and KITROW
Number of Chapters: 89 chapters
The Crown Princess Scandal Webtoon page
Status: Completed
This story starts out with the protagonist, Hwa-Yeong, being forced to take her sister’s place in a competitive event to choose the crown princess. After hearing that the crown prince could be ugly, the younger sister Hwa-Jin submits her sister’s name instead of her own; forcing Hwa-Yeong to live at the imperial palace and compete for the selection.
However, the rambunctious and righteous heroine Hwa-Yeong refuses to marry this way. She tries multiple times to botch her own chances, in hopes of returning home. However, due to both situational circumstances and Hwa-Yeong’s hilarious personality, she often finds herself not only involved with the crown prince, but even gaining favor from his mother!
The Crown Princess Scandal feels a bit like an enemies-to-lovers story, as the crown prince and Hwa-Yeong both start out hating each other—and the whole selection process. I didn’t expect to like the pairing of these two, as the crown prince is a snarky tsundere with a bit of an ego, and Hwa-Yeong is a wild, quick-tempered rule-breaker.
I know these sound like insults, but they are good characters—they just keep things interesting throughout this romcom webtoon!
However, as they slowly begin to hate each other less, you’ll find it both hilarious and exciting to see the romantic feelings develop. Their strong personalities and bickering give me a bit of second-hand embarrassment, but it makes their other interactions a bit more meaningful and sort of unexpected. The romance eventually gets super cute and wholesome, so look forward to it!
Final Thoughts
I hope you enjoy these romcom webtoon recommendations! I think there was a lot of variety in this list, featuring romances amongst multiple age groups, different levels of seriousness, and even different types of humor. Have you read any of these stories? Feel free to share below which ones you enjoyed!
