Veil – Plot Summary
With the recent release of Veil’s physical English volumes, I wanted to talk about this lovely series a bit on my website. ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
This gorgeous, full-color manga follows the unique relationship between a police officer and a runaway heiress in a seemingly European setting. They meet by coincidence one day—and he offers her a position as a receptionist at the police office he works for.
The plot of the Veil manga series is actually a collection of daily events or conversations between these two, often told through witty dialogue and beautiful, artistic perspectives.
There isn’t a main plot pushing the story—instead, the primary interest is the delicate line between friends and lovers, which the main two characters seem to walk along. If you’d be interested in a story filled with a classy, gentle romance and absolutely stunning art, definitely check out this series.

Why You Should Read Veil
Plot:
There may not be a primary plot that leads this story, but the intimacy between the main two characters keeps you incredibly entranced. They have a very cute and sweet relationship, that is definitely something stronger than friendship—but also never seems to enter lover territory.
Regardless, the author makes you fall in love with these characters, their daily antics, and their uniquely adorable relationship. The way the author portrays their daily life is entrancing, as it immerses you in the elegant atmosphere that the manga creates.
There’s so many little details that show how much the characters truly care for each other, which adds to the charm of this beautiful manga. This story has a unique talent for making even the simplest of daily experiences seem amazing and romantic. I think this story is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace, so that you can soak in every detail of emotion and beauty found within this story and its art.
Somehow the author even seems to romanticize inanimate objects, as if they are onlookers to the characters’ lives. The way they do this is quite poetic and interesting—but I’ll leave you to discover more of that in your own reading!
In short, I was amazed at how much a simple and calm story could be so lovely and alluring.
Characters:
In a story filled with slice-of-life chapters, the characters are really what make it special. These characters have a heartwarming chemistry and playful dynamic.
When combined with the vibrant colors and soft artistic styles, their relationship looks so picturesque. These characters are also unnamed, which sort of adds to the vibe of this story. Because of this, I’ll simply refer to them as the male and female lead.
Starting with the female lead of Veil, she is a gorgeous blind woman with a soft, elegant, and playful air about her. She greatly values her independence and often carries a bit of a can-do attitude, yet is also gentle and adorably appreciative of all the little things she experiences in life. She is so very cute and witty!
I love the way the author draws her in so many different looks and hairstyles. The female lead’s design is really just so gorgeous and iconic, and her personality is so lovable.
As for the male lead, he is a handsome man who is completely and adorably entranced by the female lead. He is protective, accommodating, thoughtful, and slightly playful as well. He seems very reliable and capable, but also goes along with the female lead’s preferences and demands rather easily.
He seems head over heels in love, even though this story doesn’t necessarily showcase an explicit romance. I really enjoyed his character, both design-wise and personality wise. He fits perfectly with the female lead!
I especially love the contrast between these two characters: the gruff, stern-looking male lead and the delicate, model-like female lead. Despite their appearances, the characters often take on unexpected character traits—for example, the female lead can be rather stubborn and playful, and even loves alcohol.
The male lead is very thoughtful and careful, and surprisingly cute. Sometimes the things he says are romantic, even if he isn’t necessarily meaning to be. He seems like a more sincere sort of person, rather than a smoother talker; which just makes his character even more cute.
Art:
No amount of words can describe how lovely and vibrant this manga is!! It’s truly gorgeous, utilizing a beautiful blend of bright colors and interesting points of view.
The characters themselves are both cute and attractive. The author blesses our eyes with gorgeous illustrations of these lovely characters, even outside of the main story. I think that this elegant manga will make a wonderful addition to any manga enjoyer’s collection!
The use of colors in this series is just so stunning. The author keeps things vibrant while still utilizing different hues to indicate times of the day, different types of light, sensations, and more.
I also have to mention that the art style and character portraits featured throughout the series is very telling of the author’s interest in fashion.
I’m not sure if Kotteri has some sort of background in fashion or why they seem to incorporate it so much into their manga—but what I do know is that it is stunning and very fun to admire. There’s so much beautiful art in this manga, it could honestly pass as an artist’s look book.

Any Cons?
I personally found no cons within the Veil manga series. However, I’ll warn about two small things that some readers may dislike:
- As mentioned before, this story is made up of slice-of-life style stories in mini-chapters. Most of these chapters are short, and there isn’t really a “goal” for the plot. If you aren’t looking for a calm, relaxed story, this may not be the pick for you.
- Next, the relationship between the two characters sort of weaves the line between friends and lovers. There aren’t really any explicit or outwardly romantic interactions (kissing and the like), so if you are expecting a lot of that sort of development, you may be disappointed. I personally enjoyed the less explicit but still sensual depictions of their relationship.
Final Thoughts
Veil is a beautiful manga filled with vibrant art and a lovely relationship between two individuals. This story feels delicate, calming, and soft; it’s perfect for readers who are looking for a unique, slow-paced manga.
It’s the kind of manga that makes you wish you had a similar relationship, or a romance just as beautiful—meaning it’s a must-read!
