Villain With a Crush – Plot Summary
Villain With a Crush (also known as Pure Villain in the original Naver Korean title) is an incredibly funny rom-com webtoon, which takes place in a world where superpowers have emerged among the population.
These superpowers vary in both strength and type, and because super-powered criminals began to increase in number, a special super-powered police force was created to counter the issue.
This hilarious whirlwind of a story starts out with the FL, Rosa Park (age 18), confessing to a boy on a rooftop and ultimately being rejected.
Immediately afterwards, while Rosa is in a state of despair, the building she is standing on crumbles beneath her. Luckily for her, a famous super-powered cop, Doryeong Han, saves her life. With this experience, Rosa falls in love once again, now with a new target.
But even just getting near Doryeong was a challenge for Rosa. As the strongest superhero, he was always surrounded by dangerous situations. After failing many times to come anywhere near him over the course of two years, Rosa hilariously changes her outfit for better success; including a gas mask and more durable clothing.
This unique look, paired with her own unique superpowers, gets her dubbed as a villain known as “Blackdog.” How will she ever confess her love to Doryeong now that they are on opposing sides?!
Villain With a Crush is an extremely funny, cat-and-dog or push-and-pull type of romance story; something silly always prevents the main two from truly getting together. This is usually a trope that I get a bit impatient with, but because this is a comedy, it was incredibly enjoyable.
The plot feels very unserious and extremely exaggerated, but it is actually pulled off pretty well and still progresses in terms of the romance!
Why I Enjoyed Villain With a Crush
The romance in this webtoon is definitely a bit of a slow burn, but once we start to see some romantic progress, it is very satisfying and extremely cute. I especially like Doryeong’s character when it comes to the romance. I kept believing in him, and he didn’t let me down, haha!
I thought his character would be pretentious, but instead he was very likable and even had his own funny characteristics (like being slightly petty, which I thought was hilarious). Rosa is a very sweet and more innocent sort of character, which fits with Doryeong well and also makes her superpowers even more hilarious.
Rosa is also blindly in love, unable to see very obvious happenings around her. She is hilariously unaware of herself, which makes things even more interesting for the romantic aspect of this series.
This story was definitely written to give you tons of laughs. From the outrageous plot to the extremely eccentric characters, everything about Villain With a Crush is so fun and humorous. The characters definitely make the entire series super fun.
Although the romance takes some time to build, the story keeps you occupied with how outrageous and hilarious it is. The humor is well-timed and varies from goofy to completely bizarre and unexpected. There are also some small, random details that are very funny too, so be on the lookout!
Even the side characters in Villain With a Crush are silly. The author really thought of making every character interesting or weird in some way, haha! From a symmetry-obsessed cop to an OP grandma, we get to see some very creative characters in this story.
The “superpowers” in this story’s world are also ridiculous and hilariously stupid, many of them will have you laughing constantly. This was such a weird and amazing twist to a romance plot; it really made the superpowers aspect of the story more interesting.

The art style of Villain With a Crush is very simple most of the time, but still gets the story across properly. The author also makes sure to put special attention on the many hilarious facial expressions we see throughout the webtoon, as well as during the romantic scenes.
But overall, a less detailed art style is not always bad. In this case, the simple style allows for even more humor, as the way the characters are drawn sometimes really made me crack up.
Although this story starts off very unserious and is extremely silly, the story does actually stay really interesting and keeps you engaged. It is well developed and has some good twists in the plot. The main characters in Villain With a Crush are all very likable, which makes you want to see how they grow, too.
We have the sweet but strong Rosa, the morally good but sort of clingy hero Doryeong, the overprotective grandma, and many other fun characters. We even get to enjoy two brief side-story romances, both of which were very fun and cute in their own way.
The story also brings in a second male lead, Useop Nam, who is another fun source of humor in this webtoon. He quickly becomes Rosa’s friend, and Doryeong’s enemy. I liked his character a lot, and was glad to see him stay relevant for much of the story!
Any Cons?
The first con for Villain With a Crush is relating to the romance side of the plot. This webtoon is a very slow burn, and we don’t get to see very much progress happen until much later; so if you’re impatient, maybe be aware of this fact.
Additionally, the misunderstanding trope is used often and the main two characters have a ton of obstacles to overcome! However, I will say the “crushing” aspect begins early at least.
I personally didn’t like one romance aspect that I will try not to spoil too much, but let’s just say it’s progress due to one of the characters having alcohol. I’m not the biggest fan of this trope; progress with proper awareness is just better in my opinion.
I know it is often used as a comedic element (“oh no, the character can’t remember what happened!”) but it’s just so overused and sort of ruins the romance for me, personally.
Another possible con is that for the most part, the plot is very unserious. Although, that is very much the point of this story (it is meant to be a goofy, lighthearted rom-com).
As I did mention earlier, the plot stays engaging and interesting by building up slowly, but even then the unserious tone still lurks a bit in the background. So keep that in mind if you don’t enjoy constant humor. Personally, I loved this more lighthearted aspect of the story as it kept things so fun and full of humor!
I did also mention that the art in Villain With a Crush is a bit on the simpler side. For some readers this could be a con if you prefer very detailed art types. I actually didn’t mind, and it becomes more detailed during the more important parts of the story.
Plus, the simpler art added to the humor in many ways. But although I enjoyed the art style, I know some readers may not love it.
Lastly, this con is for readers who need everything to be explained. Villain With a Crush has ridiculous plots and superpowers that aren’t explained too deeply with lore or story-science. Things happen, and characters are the way they are “just because.” So if that sort of world building bothers you, you may not enjoy this series.
Final Thoughts
This story is a fantastic pick-me-up for readers needing a good laugh. Villain With a Crush is very unserious and incredibly funny, but still works as a cute romance! The main plot involves a lot of fun superpower-related events, but the primary focus is on the romance…even if it is just two idiots falling in love! Overall, it was very enjoyable, and a great read. Be sure to check it out!
